Bappaditya Dasgupta and Indrajit Bhattacharya were there

The Nielsen Goodwish Cup 2013 was a small initiative by Nielsen (India) Pvt. Ltd. to address a most serious issue – the problems of HUNGER and MALNUTRITION amongst children from the underprivileged sections of the society.  For the same, we tied up with Child In Need Institute (CINI) – a prominent NGO who have been doing a fabulous job for the needy. Many more sponsors came up to support the initiative. GOALden Times was also a part of it, being the digital Media Partner of the event.

Towards the same, an exhibition football match was played that pitted NIELSEN team against LEGENDS XI – comprising  some of the best known names of Indian Football of the 1970’s, ‘80’s and ‘90s – all of whom have represented India in international football. The match was played on 10th January, 2013 at the Gitanjali Stadium, Kasba.

Mr P.K Banerjee, who needs no introduction, was the chief guest.

The LEGENDS XI was led by Gautam Sarkar. The other members of the team were: Prasun Banerjee, Subrata Bhattacharya, Shyam Thapa, Manas Bhattacharya, Bidesh Bose, Mihir Bose, Prasanta Banerjee, Compton Dutta, N Ulganathan, Shyamal Banerjee, Moidul Islam, Krishnendu Roy, Debasish Mukherjee, Satyajit Chatterjee, Jagadish Ghosh, Amit Das and Sanjay Majhi.

The NIELSEN team was led by Shouvik Bhattacharya (who incidentally, is Shri Manas Bhattacharya’s son). The other members were Somnath Adhya, Mehfooz Alam, Monodip Banerjee, Sontu Biswas, Trinanjan Chakraborty, Sekhar Das, Debajyoti Ghosh, Sujoy Ghosh, Anindya Gupta, Sudip Gupta, Sumanta Gupta, Sanjay Mridha, Abhishek Mukherjee, Arun Soumya Mukherjee, Babla Rajak and Indranil Pal.

The Match was played in a friendly atmosphere and the LEGENDS XI put up a wonderful performance and came up triumphant by winning it 4 – nil. The Goals were scored by Amit Das, Prashanta Banerjee, Shyam Thapa and Sanjoy Majhi.

Through this event, the organizers were able to highlight the seriousness of the problems of HUNGER and MALNUTRITION amongst children and also put a smile on the faces of some children for a few hours. And above all else, it was a homage to the legends whom all of us have grown up idolizing, and GOALden Times was proud to be a part of it.
