The romance of lonely goalkeepers

This mind-blowing photo series depicts the eternal love of non-league football and romance of lonely goalkeepers. Photographer Darren Luke traveled though the small towns and villages of Cornwall county of England and presents us these amazing visuals.

When we spoke to Darren, he explained, “All the photos are at matches in Cornwall, where players are there for the love of the game and the players and staff often outnumber the supporters.” As he is photographing grass-root football in the Cornish region for last eight years, he finds the romance of goalkeeping job is extra-ordinary, “I like the fact that at this level of football the landscape of the ground changes with the seasons. Although the landscapes are distinctly English there’s something universal about the goalkeeper’s mentality, spending a lot of the game as a spectator and fluctuating between concentration and mind-wandering, and they’re the same the world over. I just wonder what they’re thinking about.”
